I removed it and took it apart, and sure enough the switch was packed with saw dust. So, be warned that there may still be some units out there with the faulty switch. I have had it for about 2 years.
I see that the Bosch website emphasizes that it "now has a dust proof switch". It's an easy and cheap fix, $15 for the part and shipping, but very frustrating to have to stop work in the middle of the job to fiddle with it, or worse, wait for parts to arrive.UPDATE: I purchased a new switch and received it yesterday. Brilliant.
I was told that they fixed the infamous switch problem a long time ago(2005)., so I went ahead and bought one. Amazing. They sent me the exact same dust prone switch, rather than the new dust proof one.
After a few hours of very light hobby use, the switch failed exactly as many others have reported. Imagine that, a router killed by saw dust.
The switch seems to be the problem now. After one year of occasional use in my hobby shop, the router quit. Anyone want one for parts. I will be looking elsewhere. The router had a nice speed control. The base was very difficult to adjust, sticking frequently and was very difficult to adjust using the height knob.
I just didn't realize how convenient the system is until I have actually experienced installing and removing bits. I think it has the best collet (self releasing)system. Got lots of power, and the variable speed control seems accurate, and has so far performed flawlessly. This is my third Bosch power tool and I have not been disappointed. I installed it on my router table with a Smart Lift and changing the bits from the table top is so easy with the two wrenches provided.
Larry This particular product is very well made and serves my purpose for my router table. Recommend this product with or without the router table.
This would make a bit change a little easier, especially when mounted under a table. A small hole through the table top is needed. The depth adjustment is easy to set, easy to change and stays put when you lock it. This is not a big problem because of the ease of removal. Soft start and powerful, I use them on all types of exotic hard woods and it maintains the selected speed for a true and clean cut. I have 3 Bosch routers, 2 of these and I am thinking about a third one.
The wood handles feel good in your hand and it's easy to run an edge or for the fine control needed for inlayed work. My only wish is that they would add a spindle lock like the one on their big routers. I use these units all the time handheld or in a table. The standard base can be used as an under table mount that can be adjusted from the top of the table. The finish and workmanship on this router is outstanding and presents itself as a well thought out professional tool. I have used many others and this unit is hard to beat.
Adjustment is smooth and repeatable.
